A town of over thirty-thousand residents, Oviedo is
located in Seminole County’s eastern part in Florida from Orlando’s downtown
area, it is only a 20-minute drive. It is not far from Walt Disney World, other
attractions and nearby beaches. It is about a forty-five drive from town. This
location is one of Florida’s fastest growing areas in Florida and not too
distantly located from the Central Florida University. According to the website
of tourism, you can visit Oviedo and enjoy a small town, quaint atmosphere that
was once famous for growing fruit and celery.
Just
twenty miles from Orland’s intense attractions, there is a rural feel retained
by Oviedo. As a matter of fact, it is famous for free range chickens that run
through the historical downtown area of the city. The roots of Oviedo date to
eighteen sixty-five when homesteaders settled along Lake Jesup shores. These
days, it is a city that grew and maintains a steady feel of small town
including a farmer’s market and airboat rides. On the first Saturday of every
month, there is a market that offers produce locally.
Home
to the Oviedo Mall that opened in the year nineteen ninety eight, Oviedo Mall
has three main department stores anchoring it including Macy’s, Sears and
Dillard’s. Other malls in the Orlando area include The Mall at Millenia and
Waterford Lakes. Some believe that
Oviedo, being a drive that is quite easy from all the mega attractions of
Central Florida, may just have it all. There are food courts that feature
outlets such as the new Sbarro Pizza, Sarku Japan, Subway, Smoothie Bee, and
Chick Fil-A.
There
are events each year such as Great Day in the Country, 4 July, Oktoberfest, Whale
of a Sale and Taste of Oviedo. The Chamber of Commerce in the region holds
events each year as well such as Winter Springs Festival of the Arts, Home and
Hurricane Expo and Kidstravaganza. At Round Lake Park, a wonderful celebration
and Martin Luther King Parade is hosted by the Oviedo Citizens in Action
Organization. In addition, each spring, there is a Historical Walking Tour, a
Pancake Breakfast and every fall a historical tour of the Cemetery offered by
the Oviedo Preservation Project.
There
are a few good reasons to take golf in Oviedo. Aside from the serene atmosphere
and the great weather, here are two great reasons to go to Oviedo for golf.
- Golf Schools
In
Orlando, some of the best golf teachers and the most refined instructors can be
found. There are playing teachers who are quite experienced and the best staff
in the schools. Most schools have an aim of not being the best educational
facilities for young golfers but instead, to produce the finest world players.
2. Twin
Rivers Golf Club
In
Oviedo, you will find the Twin Rivers Golf Club, which is one good reason for
you to immerse yourself in Oviedo golf. Not only are the course and facilities
great, there is enough of a challenge on the green. The Knights are what they
call the tips and these can be quite tough. For UCF golf teams, there is a
private, nice facility for the golf teams of UCF. The Golf Group manages the
course and for anyone who is up for a challenge, this golf course in Oviedo is
highly recommended. One of the course’s best features is its many species of
wildlife that can be found on the courses including frogs, turtles, snakes,
deer, rabbits, sand hill crane, turkeys and American Alligator. There is a
putting range on the driving range and a location for practicing on sand and
other surfaces.
